In all the art of Medea, she is seen as both a killer and a victim. Her story is one of the most terrible tragedies. The art done on her reflects this. Medea has been labeled as a witch and thus has high association with snakes in many of her paintings. She is also depicted in her cruel role as the killer of her children.Artist seem fasinated by the fact that she killed her own children,so they oftenpaint her as doing so. Many ancient artist concentrated on her magical powers; that of the ram to a lamb and the chariot. More recent artist have concentrated on her tragic lifeand the pain that made her a victim. In her depiction in art, Medea is splitbetween two vivid images that create a unique and compelling character. |
